Belinda, the award-winning short film by Isaac Kasende, has been officially selected for the prestigious Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival, marking another major milestone in its outstanding international festival run.

The 24-minute satirical drama follows three hotel workers who stumble upon a magical machine with a dark secret – it produces money at the cost of human lives. This striking premise unfolds into a gripping exploration of temptation, madness, and the corrosive effects of greed, class disparity, and abuse of power.
Anchored by commanding performances from Maudi Ilung, Mandla Gaduka, and Daniel Janks, and produced by Sisanda Henna Films, Belinda exemplifies Kasende’s gift for blending fantastical elements with stark realism and incisive social commentary.
The film’s latest achievement at HollyShorts comes after an impressive series of accolades:
- Winner – Top Short Film at the HACC Festival
- 11 Nominations at the Fame Shorts International Film Festival
- Official Selection – Hollywood Black Film Festival
- Enthusiastic reception and audience acclaim at the Joburg Film Festival
Kasende’s unique narrative style and fearless storytelling have resonated with audiences and juries alike. “Being part of HollyShorts is not only an honour but a chance to bring African stories to one of the most respected short film stages in the world,” said Kasende. “I’m grateful for the team and collaborators who have carried Belinda from Johannesburg to the global arena.”
With its selection at HollyShorts, Belinda joins the ranks of films eligible for Academy Award consideration, further amplifying its presence on the world stage.
